1966 thru 1983 Pre - Alpha

Pre - Alpha Upper Housing

A. Top cover has a hump with a hole thru it. Alpha is flat.
B. Area around vent hole has ribs. Alpha is smooth.
C. Hole for plastic trim tab cover is 7/16 Diameter. Alpha is 1/2 Diameter.

This housing will fit an Alpha lower housing but will not fit a Gen II lower.

Pre - Alpha Lower Housing

A. Vertical drive shaft has a preload pin on the top of it. Alpha does not.
B. Rear of cavitation plate is rounded. Alpha is almost square.

This housing will fit an Alpha upper housing but will not fit a Gen II upper.

The 2 5/16 Diameter below the water pump is smooth. Alpha has threads in it.

This housing will fit an Alpha upper housing but will not fit a Gen II upper.
