Vertical Shaft Preload Tool

This is MerCruiser p/n 91-14311A2 preload tool.

It is used on Alpha One and Generation II drives made after 1984. This tool clamps to the vertical drive shaft and applies upward pressure to seat the bearing assembly below the water pump. Once the bearing is seated, you can now check the backlash on forward and reverse gear as well as the height of the pinion gear in the lower housing.
